Accessory Drive Belt - Slips Off Pulley When Wet

ISSUE
On some vehicles equipped with the 4.6L engine, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt may hydroplane on the Water Pump pulley when the belt is splashed with water. This may cause the belt to track forward on the tensioner pulley. The belt may then slip off the tensioner pulley.
ACTION
Verify condition. Replace the Water Pump Pulley and/or Tensioner assembly as necessary. Refer to the following Service Information for details.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Refer to the appropriate Workshop Manual for disassembly and assembly of components. For Crown Victoria Police and Mustang GT manual built 12/19/2000 to 9/24/01: Replace the Tensioner with XR3Z-6B209-AB and Water Pump Pulley with 3W7Z-8509-M.
For Crown Victoria Police and Mustang GT manual built 9/25/01 to 2/11/2002 and vehicles that have had the original Short Housing Water Pump (models built January 2001 and later), replaced with a Long Housing Water Pump YW7Z-8501-M and flanged Water Pump Pulley part number F6ZZ-8509-AA:
Replace only the Tensioner assembly with XR3Z-6B209-AB. Do not replace the Water Pump Pulley or Water Pump.
For Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car, Mustang Cobra manual, and Mustang GT automatic built 12/19/2000 to 2/11/2002: Replace Water Pump Pulley with 3W7Z-8509-AA and Tensioner with XR3Z-6B209-AB.
FEAD belts may require replacement if damaged or missing. Check the belt for cuts, abrasions, and cracks through the bottom of the ribs. If these conditions are evident, replace the belt.
