Starter Motor: Service and Repair






SPECIAL TOOL(S)

REMOVAL
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the lower intake manifold.







3. Remove the air cleaner bracket.







4. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors







5. Remove the shift cable bracket bolts and reposition the shift cable to one side.
^ Disconnect the shift cable.







6. Remove the starter motor support bracket.







7. Remove the schrader valve cap.







8. Using the special tool, turn the tap fully counterclockwise to relieve the fuel pressure.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE TAP IS TURNED FULLY CLOCKWISE BEFORE FITTING THE FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO THE SCHRADER VALVE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

NOTE: When relieving the fuel pressure, catch any displaced fuel in a suitable container.







9. Using the special tool, disconnect the fuel return pipe.







10. Using the special tool, disconnect the fuel supply pipe.







11. Disconnect the cooling system hoses from the crossover pipe.







12. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.







13. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.







14. Remove the accelerator cable guide and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) pipe nut.







15. Remove the PCV hose.







16. Remove the water crossover pipe.







17. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts and starter motor.

INSTALLATION



























1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Install new water crossover pipe O-ring seals and make sure the seals are lubricated with coolant to aid with installation.
