Parking Brake Control: Service and Repair

Parking Brake Control

Removal
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Remove the rear muffler.





3. Remove the rear section of the exhaust heat shield.





4. Detach the parking brake cables from the parking brake cable equalizer.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the floor console.





7. Detach the parking brake control.





8. Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch electrical connector.





9. Remove the parking brake control.
^ Pull the parking brake cable equalizer through the opening in the floor.

Installation

NOTE: New parking brake control assemblies are supplied with the self-adjust mechanism pre-set.





1. To set the preload of the parking brake control self-adjust mechanism, lift the parking brake control lever to the fully raised position.





2. Locate the parking brake cable equalizer between your feet.





3. Extract 40 mm of parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously pull the parking brake control to extract 40 mm of parking brake cable.





4. Release the tension on the parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously release the tension on the cable.
^ The cable self-adjust mechanism will hold the cable until load is applied to the cable.





5. Insert the parking brake cable equalizer through the opening in the floor.





6. Connect the parking brake warning indicator switch electrical connector.





7. Install the parking brake control.
8. Install the floor console.
9. Raise and support the vehicle.





10. Reconnect the parking brake cables to the parking brake cable equalizer.





11. Install the rear section of the exhaust system heat shield.
12. Install the rear muffler.
