Initial Inspection - External Controls

External Controls
Because fault diagnosis starts as soon as the vehicle is taken in for repair we recommend the following procedure:

1. Check that the customer concern is clearly understood. As necessary reproduce the concern on the vehicle.
The overdrive function (preventing the transaxle from shifting into fourth gear) can be switched off using the spring loaded button on the selector lever knob. The corresponding indicator lamp in the instrument panel lights up showing that the overdrive function is switched off.
To activate overdrive function, press the button again and the lamp will go out.

2. If the concern is not clearly understood carry out a road test and perform visual checks using the table.

WARNING: Danger of accident. Apply the parking brake. Shift the transaxle to "P". Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

3. If a concern can be identified with certainty by a visual check, correct it and test that the system operates normally.
4. If the concern cannot be identified with certainty, then use the symptom chart to identify. Diagnosis By Symptom - External Controls
