Ignition Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL







1. Detach the throttle cable and the speed control cable from the engine cover.







2. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil.







3. Remove the variable camshaft timing solenoid electrical connector grommet from the engine cover.







4. Disconnect the variable camshaft timing solenoid electrical connector.







5. Remove the engine cover.







6. Using a rotating movement, disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.

CAUTION: When disconnecting the spark plug connectors do not pull on the wire.

NOTE: Unclip the wire from the retainer and rotate the connector to break the seal on the spark plug.

7. Remove the spark plug wires.

INSTALLATION







1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Lubricate the spark plug wire connectors with silicon dielectric compound, D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent, meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A to aid installation.
