Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Electrical
- Module(s)
- Instrument cluster
- Circuit(s)
- Loose or corroded connector(s)
- Data Link Connector (DLC)
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the scan tool still does not power up, refer to the scan tool manual.
NOTE:
^ Before running the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS Network Test, turn the ignition switch to RUN. Failure to turn the ignition switch to run will cause invalid Network Test results.
^ Make sure the battery is fully charged, or the scan tool may not be able to communicate with all the modules.
5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the scan tool responds with:
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and erase the continuous DTCs.
^ any other than SYSTEM PASSED, proceed to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart, which brought you here to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
