REMOVAL
WARNING:
^ THE BELT AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLY PRETENSIONER IS A PYROTECHNIC DEVICE. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING AN AIR BAG-EQUIPPED VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING A BELT AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLY PRETENSIONER.
^ THE BELT AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLY PRETENSIONER IS A PYROTECHNIC DEVICE. NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE BELT AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLY PRETENSIONS. DOING SO COULD RESULT IN BELT AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLY PRETENSIONER OR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
NOTE: Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and carry out the diagnostic procedure again.
1. Prepare the vehicle for safety belt buckle and pretensioner removal.
1 Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to Battery.
WARNING:
^ TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS AND BEFORE SERVICING, REPLACING, ADJUSTING OR STRIKING COMPONENTS NEAR THE FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS, SUCH AS DOORS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CONSOLE, DOOR LATCHES, STRIKERS, SEATS AND HOOD LATCHES.
^ PLEASE REFER TO AIR BAG SYSTEMS TO DETERMINE LOCATION OF THE FRONT AIR BAG SENSORS.
^ THE SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS ARE LOCATED AT OR NEAR THE BASE OF THE B-PILLAR.
TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF EQUIPPED).
2 Deactivate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and remove the driver seat. For additional information, refer to Seats.
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, NOTES AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SEAT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) deactivation and reactivation has also been incorporated as part of the seat removal and installation procedure.
2. Release the seat cushion trim cover side J-clips.
3. Disconnect and route the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector and wire harness out from under the seat.
4. Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
NOTE: Do not handle the safety belt buckle and pretensioner in the area of the safety belt buckle and pretensioner cable or retaining nut. Accidental pretensioner deployment can occur and result in personal injury.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, READ AND FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS AND NOTES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE REMOVAL PROCEDURE.
1. Install the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
1 Position the safety belt buckle and pretensioner onto the seat track bracket.
^ Align the safety belt buckle and pretensioner mounting bracket slot so that the seat track bracket anti-rotation tab goes through it.
2 Install the nut.
NOTE: Make sure to tighten the nut to specification.
2. Route the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector and wire harness between the seat cushion frame and the seat track.
3. Connect the safety belt buckle and pretensioner electrical connector.
4. Reposition the seat cushion trim cover over the safety belt buckle and pretensioner and attach the J-clips.
5. Restore the vehicle to operating condition.
1 Install the driver seat and reactivate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to Seats.

2 With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove-out the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to Air Bag Systems.
WARNING: THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TOOL IS FOR RESTRAINT SYSTEM SERVICE ONLY. REMOVE FROM THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO ROAD USE. FAILURE TO REMOVE COULD RESULT IN INJURY AND POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS.
3 Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to Occupant Restraint System in the Diagnosis and Testing portion. Testing and Inspection
