Installation
Special Tool(s)
Installation
1. Install the rear engine support bracket and bolts, if equipped.
2. Install the bracket.
3. Install the transaxle.
^ Position the transaxle on a high lift jack.
^ Apply Multi-Purpose Grease D0AZ-19584-AA meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C93-B or equivalent to the torque converter pilot hub.
4. Install the transaxle retaining bolts.
5. Install the bolt.
6. Install the transaxle retaining bracket.
1. Install the retaining bracket.
2. Install the nuts.
3. Install the bolts.
7. Install four new torque to flexplate nuts.
8. Install the transmission housing cover.
9. Depress the tabs on the plastic retainers and install the cooler lines.
10. Install the cooler line retaining clips.
11. Install the starter motor.
12. Install the battery ground cable and nut.
13. Install the LH halfshaft.
14. Install the RH halfshaft.
15. CAUTION: If the steering gear was removed with the subframe and there is evidence that the steering column intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be recentered before the vehicle is driven or damage to the clockspring can result.
Install the subframe assembly.
16. Install the rear catalytic converter assembly.
17. Install the nut for the rear catalytic converter assembly.
18. Install the bolts for the front catalytic converter assembly.
19. Install the nuts for the front catalytic converter assembly.
20. Reconnect the rear HO2S sensor connector.
21. Reconnect the front H02S sensor connector.
22. Lower the vehicle.
23. Remove the 3 Bar Engine Support.
24. Remove the Engine Lifting Bracket.
25. Install the rear support brace.
1. Install the rear support brace.
2. Install the bolt.
3. Install the nut.
26. Install the lower cowl assembly.
27. Install the wiper.
1. Install the upper cowl assembly.
2. Install the clips.
3. Install the wiper.
28. Remove the engine lifting bracket.
29. Install the nut for the cooling tube.
30. Install the bolts.
31. Reconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor.
32. Reconnect the connector and install it into the shift cable bracket.
33. Reconnect the harness.
34. Reconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor connector.
35. Reconnect the power steering sensor connector.
36. Verify that the digital transmission range (TR) sensor is properly adjusted.
37. Install the manual control lever cable and nut.
1. Install the manual control lever cable into the bracket.
2. Tighten the nut.
38. Install the electrical connector bracket.
39. Reconnect the connector.
40. Install the battery tray.
41. Install the air filter assembly.
42. Install the engine air cleaner.
43. Reconnect the breather tubes.
44. Reconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
45. Install the battery.
46. Fill the transaxle using MERCON V Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-S-QM or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON V.
47. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level.
