Special Tools






Installation






1. Install the cylinder block drain plug.

Caution: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the head gasket.

Note: New cylinder head bolts must be installed. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.






2. Position the RH cylinder head, gasket and install the bolts in the sequence show in six stages.
- Tighten the bolts in six stages.
- Stage 1:Tighten to 40 Nm ( 30 ft lbs ).
- Stage 2:Tighten bolts 90 °.
- Stage 3:loosen one full turn.
- Stage 4:Tighten to 40 Nm ( 30 ft lbs ).
- Stage 5:Tighten 90 °.
- Stage 6:Tighten 90 °.






3. Install the bolt into the water pump coolant tube.






4. Position a new gasket and install the exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown.






5. Install the heat shield onto the steering gear.






6. Install the rear support brace.
1. Install the rear support brace.
2. Install the bolt.
3. Install the nut.
7. Install the gaskets in the lower intake manifold.






8. Install the lower intake manifold assembly and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.






9. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
10. Connect the fuel hose spring lock coupling. Service and Repair






11. Inspect the water pump bypass tube O-ring. Install new O-ring if necessary.






12. Install the water pump bypass tube. Install the bolt and stud.






13. Connect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, water temperature sender, heater water hose and harness locator pin to the bypass tube.






14. Install the radiator bypass hose assembly.






15. Connect the transmission 10 pin connector.






16. Connect the upper radiator hose and the engine vent hose.
17. Raise the vehicle.






18. Position the front splash shield and install the pin-type retainers and the bolts.
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Install the battery tray. Service and Repair






21. Install the air cleaner housing onto the locating pin.






22. Install the two air cleaner housing bolts.






23. Connect the mass airflow sensor electrical connector.






24. Install the special tools.
25. Raise the vehicle.






26. Remove the A/C brackets bolts.
27. Lower the vehicle.






28. Using the engine support tool, raise the engine away from the A/C bracket.






29. Install the hydraulic lash adjusters.
- Lubricate the hydraulic lash adjusters with Super Premium SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-H.






30. Install the camshaft followers.
- Lubricate the camshaft followers with Super Premium SAE 5W20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-H.






31. Connect the EGR tube to the exhaust manifold.
32. Raise and support the vehicle. Vehicle Lifting






33. Install the RH exhaust manifold to pipe bolts.
34. Lower the vehicle.
35. Install the RH camshafts. Camshaft
36. Fill the cooling system. Service and Repair
