Special Tools






Installation






1. Install the cylinder block coolant drain plug.

Caution: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive disc or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the head gasket.

Note: New cylinder head bolts must be installed. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.






2. Position the LH cylinder head, gasket and install the bolts in the sequence shown in six stages.
- Tighten the bolts in six stages.
- Stage 1:Tighten to 40 Nm ( 30 ft lbs )
- Stage 2:Tighten bolts 90 °
- Stage 3:Loosen one full turn.
- Stage 4:Tighten to 40 Nm ( 30 ft lbs )
- Stage 5:Tighten 90 °
- Stage 6:Tighten 90 °






3. Install the oil indicator tube and bolt.
4. Install the gaskets in the lower intake manifold.






5. Install the lower intake manifold assembly and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.






6. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
7. Connect the fuel hose spring lock coupling. Fuel Line Coupler






8. Connect the connector hose to the water pump.






9. Position the water pump and install the mounting bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 10 Nm ( 89 in lbs ).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 °.






10. Connect the heater water hose to the bottom of the water pump.






11. Inspect the water pump bypass tube O-ring. Install new O-rings, if necessary.






12. Position the water pump bypass tube and install the stud and bolt.






13. Connect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, water temperature sender, heater water hose, and harness locator pin to the bypass tube.






14. Install the radiator bypass hose assembly.






15. Connect the transmission 10-pin electrical connector.






16. Connect the upper radiator hose and engine vent tube.
17. Raise and support the vehicle. Vehicle Lifting






18. Support the exhaust system with a suitable jack.






19. Detach the rear exhaust converter from the sub frame.
20. Install the LH exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold
21. Install the battery tray. Service and Repair






22. Install the air cleaner housing onto the locating pin.






23. Install the two air cleaner housing bolts.






24. Connect the mass airflow sensor electrical connector.






25. Install the special tools.
26. Raise the vehicle.






27. Remove the A/C bracket bolts.
28. Lower the vehicle.






29. Using the engine support tool, raise the engine away from the A/C bracket.






30. Install the hydraulic lash adjusters.
- Lubricate the hydraulic lash adjuster with Super Premium SAE 5W20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-H.






31. Install the camshaft followers.
- Lubricate the camshaft followers with Super Premium SAE 5W20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-H.
