ISSUE
Some vehicles may exhibit a flashing Transmission Control Indicator Light (TCIL) with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0782 stored in memory and/or a 200-400 engine rpm rise during light throttle 3-4 shifts. This may be due to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.
ACTION
If the calibration is not at the latest level, reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration level. To verify repair, complete the Transmission Drive Cycle Test per the Diagnosis and Testing Section of the appropriate model Workshop Manual. If the condition is not corrected after reprogramming the PCM, continue with normal diagnostics and repair per the appropriate model Workshop Manual. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Prior to performing any Service Procedures, verify tear tag and PCM information. Refer to the PCM Calibration chart as shown.
NOTE
IF THE VEHICLE AND AXLE RATIO ARE NOT LISTED IN THE APPLICATION CHART, REPROGRAMMING THE PCM WILL NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION. FOLLOW NORMAL DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES PER THE WORKSHOP MANUAL.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
