Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair

Camshaft Oil Seal








Special Tools

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.





2. Remove the water pump pulley cover.
1 Detach the coolant hose from the clip.
2 Remove the bolts.
3 Remove the cover.





3. Unclip the wire and cable from the bridge and remove the bridge.





4. Rotate the belt tensioner clockwise, towards the camshaft drive pulley, to release the drive belt tension and remove the belt.





5. Remove the water pump drive pulley.
1 Install special tool.
2 Install special tool then turn the center bolt.
3 Remove the pulley.





6. NOTE: In order to make sure correct sealing do not scratch the camshaft.

Using the special tools, remove the camshaft oil seal.

Installation





1. NOTE: Do not damage the running surface of the camshaft.

NOTE: Lubricate the camshaft oil seal with engine oil before installation.

Install the new camshaft oil seal.
1 Install special tool on end of camshaft.
2 Position special tool over the new oil seal.
3 Install special tool then turn to install the oil seal.





2. Using the special tool, install the water pump drive pulley.





3. Rotate the belt tensioner clockwise towards the camshaft drive pulley and install the belt.





4. Install the bridge and attach the cable and wire.





5. Install the water pump pulley cover.
1 Install the cover.
2 Install the bolts.
3 Attach the coolant hose to the clip.

6. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

Connect the battery ground cable.
