FUEL TANK DRAINING
Special Tool(s):
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
WARNING:
- Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
- Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Release the fuel system pressure.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Using suitable hose pinching pliers, clamp the fuel tank filler hoses in the locations shown.
5. Remove the fuel tank filer pipe hoses.
1. Loosen the hose clamps.
2. Disconnect the hoses from the filer pipes.
6. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the fuel filter inlet hose.
8. Disconnect the vapor tube fitting.
9. Position a suitable lifting device under the fuel tank.
10. Remove the two fuel tank support strap bolts.
11. Partially lower the fuel tank to access the fuel pump module while swinging the fuel tank support straps away from the fuel tank.
12. Using the special tool, remove the fuel pump module retaining ring.
13. CAUTION: The fuel pump module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm, filter and convolute hoses.
NOTE: A stop should be felt when aligning the raised arrow on top of the fuel pump module to the dot on the fuel tank.
Position aside the fuel pump module and, using the special tools, drain the fuel tank.
