ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with a 3.0L 2 valve engine and AX4N transaxle may exhibit a closed throttle, downhill, surge sensation at 40 KM/H (25 MPH) during a 2-3 shift with no increase in vehicle speed. This would only be encountered when operating in hilly terrain while coasting downhill with closed throttle and vehicle speed slowly increasing to 40 KM/H (25 MPH). This may be caused by calibration of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
ACTION
Verify condition. If normal diagnostics cannot pinpoint this condition, reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration. Refer to the appropriate model year Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostics (PC/ED) Manual and the PCM Calibration Information chart for reprogramming procedures.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
