Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

Removal

Note: For a valve train noise concern, inspect the valve-to-rocker arm clearance, rocker arms and push rods for wear.

1. Remove the lower intake manifold.
2. Remove pushrods.





3. Remove the tappet guide plate retainer.





4. Remove the valve tappet guide plates.





5. Remove the valve tappets.

Installation

1. Note: Lubricate the valve tappets and the valve tappet bores prior to installation.

Install the valve tappets.
- Use Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.





2. Install the valve tappet guide plates.





3. Install the tappet guide plate retainer.
4. Install the pushrods.
5. Install the lower intake manifold.
6. Connect the battery ground cable.
