Cylinder Head LH

Removal

1. Remove the coolant bypass tube. Service and Repair

2. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information,
Service and Repair

3. Remove the LH camshafts. For additional information, Service and Repair

4. Raise the vehicle.

5. Install the A/C bracket.
1.Position the bracket.
2.Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts in two stages:
Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
Stage 2: Tighten 90 degrees.
3.Install the engine mount bolts.






6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Remove the 3-Bar Engine Support.

8. Remove the camshaft followers.






9. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.






10. Remove the nuts and remove the exhaust manifold.
- Discard the gasket.






11. Remove the oil level indicator tube.






12. Note:The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the cylinder head.
- Discard the gasket and the bolts.






13. NOTE:The straightedge used must be flat within 0.0051 mm (0.0002 in) per foot of tool length.

Support the cylinder head on a bench with the head gasket side up. Inspect all areas of the deck face witha straightedge and feeler gauge. The cylinder head must not have depressions deeper than 0.0254 mm (0.001 in) across a 38.1 mm (1.5 in) square area, or scratches more than 0.0254 mm (0.001 in) deep.

Installation

1. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the head gasket.

Note: The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

Position the LH cylinder head, gasket and install the bolts in the sequence shown in six stages.
- Tighten the bolts in six stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 2: Tighten bolts 90 degrees.
- Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
- Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
- Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
- Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.






2. Inspect the O-ring seal at the end of the oil level indicator tube and install a new O-ring seal if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring seal with Super Premium SAE-5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.






3. Install the oil level indicator tube.
1.Install the oil level indicator tube.
2.Install the stud nut.






4. Position a new gasket and install the exhaust manifold nuts in
the sequence shown.






5. Install the hydraulic lash adjusters.
- Lubricate the hydraulic lash adjusters with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2Cl53-G.






6. Install the camshaft followers.
- Lubricate the camshaft followers with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent, meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.






7. Install the 3-Bar Engine Support.

8. Raise the vehicle.

9. Remove the A/C bracket.
1.Remove the bolts.
2.Remove the engine mount bolts.
3.Remove the bracket.






10. Lower the vehicle.

11. Install the LH camshafts. For additional information, Service and Repair

13. Install the coolant bypass tube. For additional information, Service and Repair
