Vehicles With Returnless Fuel System

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components.Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may cause personal injury.

1. Remove the air cleaner assembly outlet tube.
2. Disconnect the fuel line.
3. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Engine.







4. Disconnect the six electrical connectors from the fuel injectors and position the harness to one side.







5. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector.







6. Disconnect the vacuum line.







7. Disconnect the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) operation rod.







8. Remove the fuel supply manifold.

NOTE: The fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors are removed as an assembly.







9. Remove the fuel injectors from the supply manifold.

INSTALLATION

1. Install new fuel injector O-ring seals.
^ Lubricate the fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil, OX-10W30-QSP or DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C-153- F, to aid installation.

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.







2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ When installing the six fuel injectors begin at the front of the engine and install sequentially working towards the rear.
^ Check for fuel leaks.
