TRANSAXLE - CD4E - CLEARING TRANSAXLE SHIFT TABLES - SERVICE TIP

FORD:
2000 CONTOUR

MERCURY:
2000 MYSTIQUE

ISSUE

After any major transaxle repair or replacement such as any disassembly/repair which involves new clutches, seals, friction plates, servo, valve body, or solenoids, the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) transaxle shift tables in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) should be cleared. The KAM shift tables should also be cleared after certain engine system repairs such as Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, injectors, exhaust/catalyst, fuel filter, fuel pressure, fuel pump, throttle position sensor, throttle body, air bypass or plugged air filters. Adaptive Pressure Control (APC) has compensated data stored in KAM shift tables for worn hardware and operator driving habits.

ACTION

Clearing the KAM shift tables will allow the strategy to adjust to the repaired/replaced components. After clearing KAM transaxle tables, the APC strategy will readjust the stored data in the KAM shift tables to the new hardware. Refer to Figure 1 for procedures on clearing the KAM shift tables.
