Fluid Line/Hose: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Raise the vehicle.

2. CAUTION: Do not unscrew the connecting fitting from the transaxle housing.





Remove the fluid cooler return tube from the automatic transaxle.

NOTE: Fluid will escape.

- Unscrew the return tube union.
- Unclip the return tube from the bracket.

3. CAUTION: Do not unscrew the connecting fitting from the transaxle housing.





Remove the fluid cooler feed tube from the automatic transaxle.

4. CAUTION: Hold the screw connection steady.





Disconnect the fluid cooler tubes from the radiator (shown on a radiator removed from the vehicle).
1 Feed tube
2 Return tube

- Unclip the tubes from the bracket.

Installation
1. Install new 0-ring seals.

2. CAUTION: Hold the screw connection steady.





Install the fluid cooler tubes.

3. CAUTION: Do not loosen connector cooler inlet to transaxle.





Position and install the lower transaxle cooling tube.

4. CAUTION: Do not loosen connector cooler inlet to transaxle.





Position and install the upper transaxle cooling tube.

5. CAUTION: Use of any transmission fluid other than the recommended fluid, may cause transmission/transaxle damage.

Check the automatic transmission fluid level, add Motorcraft MERCON (R) multipurpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting MERCON (R) specification as necessary. MERCON(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
