Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Removal1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the lower splash shield.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt upper guard.
7. Detach the high-pressure tube support bracket.
8. Disconnect the power steering pump low-pressure hose.
^ Drain the fluid into a suitable container.
9. Detach the coolant hose retaining bracket.
10. Using the special tool, remove the power steering pump pulley.
11. Disconnect the power steering pump high-pressure tube union.
12. Remove the power steering pump.
^ Remove the four power steering pump retaining bolts.
Installation
1. NOTE: If a new power steering pump is being installed the unions that are supplied fitted to pump should be removed and saved for future use.
Using the special tool, install anew O-ring seal.
1. Push the new O-ring seal onto the tool.
2. Locate the tool on the union and push on the new O-ring seal.
2. NOTE: When using the special tool to install the power steering pump pulley make sure the pulley is flush with the end of the power steering pump shaft.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
3. Bleed the power steering system.
