Alternator: Description and Operation

All types of generators are solidly mounted towards the front of the engine and are driven at approximately twice engine speed.

A voltage regulator senses the output voltage and regulates this to a maximum of 14.8 volts at all times.

Apart from the regulator, brush/terminal holder and pulley, generators should be serviced as an assembly and not dismantled for overhaul.
