Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer concern, by operating the system in question.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Electrical
^ Loose or corroded connector(s)
^ Circuit
^ Wiring harness
^ ABS module
^ Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
^ Air bag module
^ Alternative fuel control module (AFCM)


3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle, check:
^ that the program card is properly installed.
^ the connections to the vehicle.
^ the ignition switch position.
^ If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool manual.

5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC Test using the scan tool. If the scan tool responds with: CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, refer to System Precheck, Pinpoint Test A. Test A: Data Link Diagnostics Network Test
6. If no modules listed on the scan tool are related to the concern, return to calling section.
