2 Remove the bracket for the tube/hose (A/C).
3 Remove the lower bolts.
3. Disconnect the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) from the exhaust manifold.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove the TWC.
1 Remove the bolt and the retaining clip for the TWC.
2 Disconnect the TWC from the exhaust system.
3 Unhook the TWC from the hanger insulators.
4 Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connector.
5 Detach the TWC from the clamp.
6. Drain the engine oil.
- Install the drain plug.
7. Remove the oil pan bolts (engine shown removed).
8. CAUTION: Do not damage the mating faces.
Remove the oil pan (engine shown removed).
- Separate the oil pan from the lower crankcase using a sharp spatula. Release the oil pan from the lower crankcase by tapping slightly against the tightened drain plug with a rubber hammer.
Installation
1. Preparatory operations
NOTE: Do not damage the mating faces.
- Clean the mating faces of old sealer.
- Screw the two M6 x 20 studs into the lower crankcase to guide on the oil pan.
NOTE: The mating faces must be free of oil and gasket residue.
- Clean the oil pan using solvent to remove any oil residue or sludge.
2. NOTE: Install the oil pan within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
Apply a 3 mm bead of sealer to the mating face of the oil pan.
3. NOTE: Note the tightening sequence.
Install the oil pan.
- Screw in the drain plug with a new washer.
- Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence shown in two stages:
- Stage 1: 6 Nm
- Stage 2: 10 Nm
4. Install the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
- Guide the TWC onto the exhaust manifold studs and into the exhaust pipe.
1 Attach the TWC to the bracket.
2 Connect the H02S electrical connector.
3 Attach the TWC to the hanger insulators.
4 Connect the TWC to the exhaust.
NOTE: The TWC must be up against the exhaust manifold.
5 Secure the retaining clip for the TWC and install the bolt.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Connect the TWC to the exhaust manifold.
7. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Insert the oil level indicator tube into the cylinder block and position the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye in installation position.
1 Screw in the upper bolt and nut.
2 Install the lower bolts.
3 Install the bracket to the air conditioning (A/C) line.
8. Fill the engine with oil.
- For fill quantity and specification.
9. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
10. Check the fluid levels and correct as necessary.
11. Check the routing of the vacuum hoses and wiring and secure them with cable ties.
