Engine Support Insulators - Alignment Procedure
Special Tools:
Check
1. General note.
- Alignment of the engine and transaxle assembly is necessary in the case of any repairs to the subframe and support insulators, or if the engine starts to make booming noises.
NOTE: The locations of support insulators and engine support insulators are described looking from the transaxle to the engine.
NOTE: Steps which apply only to particular variants are indicated with a note.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) housing.
1 Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
2 Disconnect two clips.
3 Disconnect the intake hose.
5. Install the special tools.
6. Disconnect the coolant expansion tank and position it to one side.
- Disconnect the speed control cable (if equipped) from the coolant expansion tank.
7. Loosen the bolts on the engine front support insulator two turns.
8. Loosen the bolts on the engine rear support insulator two turns.
9. Raise and support the vehicle.
10. Remove the engine undershield (if equipped).
11. Loosen the bolts of the right-hand engine support insulator two turns.
1 Remove the center bolt.
2 Remove the support insulator retaining bolts.
12. NOTE: The engine support insulator cannot be removed at this stage.
Remove the left-hand engine support insulator bolts.
13. Remove the left-hand engine support insulator bracket.
- Remove the left-hand engine support insulator bracket.
- Remove the engine support insulator.
- Install the bracket again.
14. NOTE: It should be possible to insert the locating pins free of strain in the subframe and body locating bores.
Using the special tool, check the position of the subframe.
15. NOTE: The subframe must not move during the tightening operation.
Align the subframe (as necessary).
1 With the special tool inserted, tighten the four bolts, working diagonally.
2 Remove the special tool.
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Install the special tool in the place of the left-hand engine support insulator.
18. CAUTION: Do not distort or turn the support insulator.
Align the rear support insulator bracket and secure it.

Align the engine front support insulator bracket and secure it.
20. Remove the special tool.
21. Raise and support the vehicle.
22. Secure the bolts of the right-hand engine support insulator.
1 Support insulator retaining bolts
2 Center bolt
23. Remove the special tool.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the special tool from the subframe.
24. Install the left-hand engine support insulator bracket.
- Remove the left-hand engine support insulator bracket from the transaxle.
- Install the engine support insulator.
- Install the bracket again.
25. CAUTION: Do not tilt the engine support insulator.
Install the left-hand engine support insulator.
1 Attach the engine support insulator to the subframe (two bolts).
2 Install the center bolt.
26. Install the engine undershield (if equipped).
27. Lower the vehicle.
28. Install the coolant expansion tank.

29. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL) housing.
- Press the ACL into the rubber bushes.
1 Connect the crankcase ventilation hose.
2 Install the two clips.
3 Connect the intake hose.
30. Install the battery.
31. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms my occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
32. Check the fluid levels and correct as necessary.
33. Check the routing of the vacuum hoses and wiring and secure them with cable ties.
