Vehicles Without Returnless Fuel System
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
CAUTION: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
1. Disconnect the air intake bypass hose.
2. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hoses.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Release the fuel pressure.
4. Remove the upper intake manifold.
5. Detach The fuel injection wiring harness.
6. Disconnect the six fuel injector electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator.
8. Disconnect the intake manifold runner control operating rod.
9. Detach the fuel supply and the fuel return line clips.
10. Using the special tools, disconnect the fuel supply and the fuel return hoses.
11. Remove the fuel supply manifold.
NOTE: The fuel supply manifold and fuel injectors are removed as an assembly.
12. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel Supply manifold.
13. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Never use silicone grease to lubricate the O-ring seals as it will clog the injectors.
NOTE: Install new fuel injector O-ring seals.
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Lubricate the fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation.
^ When installing the six fuel injectors begin at the front of the engine and install sequentially working toward the rear.
2. Check the fuel system for fuel leaks.
