Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.





2. Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.

4. NOTE: Inspect the O-ring seal for damage.

Remove the VSS.





1 Remove the retaining pin.
2 Remove the VSS.

Installation

1. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate O-ring seal with MERCON (R) Multipurpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2QDX meeting MERCON (R) specification plus 2% Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A meeting Ford specification EST-M2C118-A.
