Special Tools:
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the upper Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connector.
3. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve from the intake manifold.
^ Loosen the EGR pipe.
4. Loosen the right-hand front wheel nuts.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the right-hand front wheel.
7. Remove the right-hand fender splash shields.
8. Loosen the accessory drive belt and remove the drive belt from the generator.
9. Using the special tool, disconnect the right-hand tie-rod end.
10. Disconnect the lower H02S electrical connector.
^ Cut the cable ties.
^ Unclip the cable.
11. Remove the exhaust pipe.
^ Discard the gaskets.
12. Remove the front axle drive halfshaft center bearing bolts and the heat shield.
13. Remove the front axle drive halfshaft center bearing bracket.
14. Remove the generator.
15. Remove the upper H02S sensor and the EGR pipe.
16. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
17. Remove the exhaust manifold (shown on removed engine).
^ Discard the gasket.
Installation
1. Note: Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown.
Install the exhaust manifold with a new gasket (shown on removed engine).
2. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
3. Position the EGR pipe to exhaust manifold.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Install the EGR valve to intake manifold.
6. Raise and support the vehicle.
7. Install the upper H02S and tighten the EGR pipe.
8. Install the generator.
9. Install the front axle drive halfshaft center bearing bracket.
10. Install the front axle drive halfshaft center bearing bolts and the heat shield.
11. Note: Use new gaskets.
Install the exhaust pipe.
12. Connect the lower H02S electrical connector.
^ Clip the cable.
^ Secure the cable with cable ties .
13. Install the tie-rod end (left-hand side shown).
14. Install the accessory drive belt to the generator.
15. Install the lower fender splash shields.
16. Install the right-hand front wheel.
17. Lower the vehicle.
18. Connect the upper H02S electrical connector.
19. Note: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
