Removal and Installation

Removal

1. CAUTION: Disconnect the battery ground cable.

Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the heat shield.
3. Disconnect the selector lever assembly.





1 Disconnect the selector cable adjusting cap.
2 Disconnect the selector cable.
3 Remove the nuts.

4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the front ash receptacle and lighter element. Remove the lighter trim if equipped.
6. Remove the selector lever assembly.





1 Remove the cover.
2 Lift out the selector lever assembly.
3 Disconnect the selector lever electrical connector.

Installation
1. Install the selector lever assembly.





1 Reconnect the selector lever electrical connector.
2 Position the selector lever.
3 Install the cover.

2. Install the lighter trim, if equipped. Install the lighter element and the front ash receptacle.
3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Install the selector lever assembly.





1 Install the nuts.

NOTE: Do not lock the selector cable adjusting cap.

2. Connect the selector cable.

5. Install the heat shield.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Adjust the cable and selector lever.

8. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy.

Connect the battery ground cable.
