Torque Converter Flushing Check


See TSB 06-14-4

1. CAUTION: Mineral spirits used to clean the torque converter must be fresh, nonchlorinated and non-halogenated. Do not use water based solvents or damage to the transaxle or torque converter may occur. If local ordinances state that water based solvent must be used, then for this procedure use clean automatic transmission fluid recommend for this transaxle.

Partially fill the torque converter using MERCON (R) Multipurpose automatic transmission fluid or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON (R). MERCON(R) Automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
2. Hand agitate the converter then thoroughly drain the fluid.
3. Repeat this procedure until the converter is clean.
4. After flushing drain the remainder of the solvent.
5. Add 1.91iter of clean MERCON (R) Multipurpose automatic transmission fluid or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON (R) and agitate by hand.
6. Thoroughly drain the converter.
7. Refill the torque converter with MERCON (R) Multipurpose automatic transmission fluid or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON (R) and install into transaxle.
