Passenger Air Bag - Module
REMOVALWARNING:
^ WAIT AT LEAST 1 MINUTE AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLES, BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE ELECTRONIC AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE OR ANY OTHER SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE MAY INCREASE THE POSSIBILITY OF ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOYING THE AIR BAG(S) AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.
^ ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG EQUIPPED VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AIR BAG MODULE.
^ DO NOT USE RADIO KEYCODE SAVERS WHEN WORKING ON THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS). FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING MAY CAUSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND OR PERSONAL INJURY.
^ CARRY A LIVE AIR BAG WITH THE BAG AND TRIM COVER POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
^ PLACE A LIVE AIR BAG ON A BENCH OR OTHER SURFACE WITH THE TRIM COVER UP.
^ AFTER DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAG SURFACE MAY CONTAIN DEPOSITS OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE, A PRODUCT OF THE GAS GENERATE COMBUSTION THAT IS IRRITATING TO THE SKIN. WASH YOU HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTERWARDS.
^ REPAIR IS MADE BY REPLACEMENT ONLY. IF A PART IS REPLACED AND THE NEW PART DOES NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION, INSTALL THE ORIGINAL PART AND PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE AGAIN.
^ NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAGS. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL INJURY.
^ AIR BAG MODULES WITH DISCOLORED OR DAMAGED COVERS OR DEPLOYMENT DOORS MUST BE REPLACED, NOT REPAINTED.
1. Disconnect the battery cables.
2. Remove the glove compartment.
1. Remove the three Torx retaining screws.
2. Open the glove compartment depressing the side stops to detach the sides.
3. Remove the glove compartment.
3. Remove the glove compartment finish panel.
^ Remove the four Torx retaining screws.
4. Remove the passenger air register duct.
1. Disconnect the duct from the heater box housing.
2. Disconnect the duct from the instrument panel register and remove.
5. Disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
6. Remove the two bolts from the cross vehicle beam retaining the rear of the passenger air bag module.
7. Remove the two nuts from the front of the passenger air bag module.
CAUTION: Support securely the air bag module when removing the retaining nuts.
8. Remove the passenger air bag module.
^ Lower the front edge of the passenger air bag module, roll the passenger air bag module around the cross vehicle beam lowering it into the passenger footwell.
INSTALLATION
WARNING:
^ ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG.
^ CARRY A LIVE AIR BAG WITH THE BAG AND TRIM COVER POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
^ REPAIR IS MADE BY REPLACEMENT ONLY. IF A PART IS REPLACED AND THE NEW PART DOES NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION, INSTALL THE ORIGINAL PART AND PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE AGAIN.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
