Timing Cover: Service and Repair
NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the bolts and position the power steering line to one side.
3. Remove the engine front support insulator.
4. Note: Use a Torx E10.
Remove the upper part of the engine front cover.
1. Remove the studs.
2. Remove the bolts and the cover.
5. Remove the fender splash shields (wheel shown removed).
1. Remove the bolts.
2. Remove the splash shields.
6. Loosen but do not remove the water pump pulley bolts.
7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
1. Turn the belt tensioner clockwise.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
8. Remove the idler pulley.
9. Remove the water pump pulley.
1. Remove the bolts.
2. Remove the water pump pulley.
10. Remove the center part of the engine front cover.
1. Remove the bolts.
2. Remove the cover.
11. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
12. Remove the lower part of the engine front cover.
Installation
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
