Parking Brake Control: Service and Repair
Removal1. Release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the floor console.
4. Detach the parking brake control.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
6. CAUTION: Support the exhaust pipe.
Remove the rear muffler.
7. Remove the rear section of the exhaust system heat shield.
8. Detach the rear cables from the equalizer.
9. Remove the parking brake control.
Pull the cable through the opening in the floor.
Installation
NOTE: New parking brake control assemblies are supplied with the self-adjust mechanism preset.
1. To set the preload of the parking brake control self-adjust mechanism, lift the parking brake control lever to the fully raised position.
2. Locate the cable and equalizer between your feet.
3. Extract 40 mm of parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously pull the parking brake to extract 40 mm of cable.
4. Release the tension on the parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously release the tension on the cable.
The cable self-adjust mechanism will hold the cable until load is applied to the cable.
5. Push the parking brake cable through the opening in the floor.
6. Reconnect the rear cables to the equalizer.
7. Install the rear section of the exhaust system heat shield.
8. Install the rear muffler.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector.
11. Install the floor console.
