Tie Rod End: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
1. Turn the key to the RUN position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.





3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
1. Remove the lug nuts.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.





4. Remove and discard the (A) cotter pin from the tie rod end castellated nut and remove the (B) nut.





5. Use (A) Tie Rod End Separator to separate the (B) front wheel knuckle from the (C) tie rod end.





6. Place alignment marks on the (A) tie rod end, the (B) tie rod end jam nut and the (C) front wheel spindle tie rod.





7. Loosen the (A) tie rod end jam nut and remove the (B) tie rod end.

INSTALLATION





1. Thread the (A) tie rod end onto the (B) front wheel spindle tie rod. Line up the alignment marks.





2. Tighten the tie rod end jam nut.





3. Connect the (A) tie rod end, to the (B) front wheel knuckle.





4. NOTE: If necessary, tighten (never loosen) the tie rod end castellated nut until the castellations line up with the cotter pin hole.

Install the tie rod end castellated nut and a new cotter pin.





5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Align the front wheels to specification.
