Canister Purge Control Valve: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM CONTAINS FUEL VAPOR AND CONDENSED FUEL VAPOR. ALTHOUGH NOT PRESENT IN LARGE QUANTITIES, IT STILL PRESENTS THE DANGER OF EXPLOSION OR FIRE. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE FROM THE BATTERY TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ELECTRICAL SPARK OCCURRING, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE OR EXPLOSION IF FUEL VAPOR OR FUEL LIQUID IS PRESENT IN THE AREA.
NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy.
2. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
3. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) return tube, control vacuum line and the EVAP canister purge outlet tube.
NOTE: Escort Coupe shown, Escort Sedan and Wagon similar.
4. Remove the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Carry out the Leak Test. EVAP System Leak Test
^ Carry out the Evaporative Emission Running Loss Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle.
