HEADLAMP DUST COVER REPLACEMENT

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1999 FORD ESCORT AND MERCURY TRACER

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open the hood.





2. Remove the passenger-side headlamp dust cap from the headlamp body. See Figure 1. Turn the dust cap counterclockwise until it unlocks from the headlamp body.





3. Using needle nose pliers, remove the headlamp wiring connector from the dust cap. See Figure 2.

4. Remove the dust cap from the vehicle.

5. Install a new gasket on the new dust cap.

6. Install the headlamp wiring connector on the new dust cap.

7. Install the headlamp dust cap on the headlamp body as follows:

^ Position the 'UP" arrow at the 12 o'clock position, then install the dust cap into the headlamp body.

^ Turn the dust cap clockwise until it locks into place.

8. Repeat the procedure on the driver-side dust cap. Remove the air cleaner fresh air tube to provide enough clearance for driver-side dust cap replacement.
