Muffler: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.





2. Remove the (A) two nuts and remove the (B) muffler inlet/outlet pipe yoke clamp.





3. Pry the (A) exhaust hanger insulators from the (B) mounting hooks.





4. Remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly.
^ Heat the muffler inlet pipe and resonator to muffler connection.
^ Tap the muffler off the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.

Installation
1. Inspect the muffler for cracked joints, broken welds and corrosive damage that could result in exhaust system leaks. If necessary, replace the muffler.
2. Position the muffler on the muffler inlet pipe and resonator and push the exhaust hanger insulators onto the mounting hooks.
^ Tap the muffler until it is properly positioned.





3. Install the clamp and the two nuts.
4. Lower the vehicle.
