Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide procedures to retrieve or clear trouble codes without the New Generation Star (NGS) tester.

NOTE: This procedure must be performed in the order shown. DO NOT skip any steps. Failure to follow this procedure may result in an incorrect diagnosis, wasted time and unnecessary replacement of good components. The System Pre-Check is used to screen the vehicle for relatively simple diagnostic repairs such as loose connectors, blown fuses, etc. However, the System Pre-Check is also used to prepare the vehicle for further diagnostics. In addition, the yellow ABS warning indicator concerns are addressed in this check.
