Sun and Shell Assembly-Disassembly

Disassembly
1. Set assembly on overdrive drum.





2. Remove front sun and shell.





3. Remove No. 11 needle bearing.





4. Remove intermediate clutch hub.





5. Remove No. 10 thrust bearing.
6. Turn assembly onto intermediate cylinder hub.





7. Remove overdrive drum and one-way clutch assembly.





8. Remove low one-way clutch outer race, top cap, low one-way clutch and bottom cap from overdrive drum.





9. Clean and inspect low one-way clutch components. Assemble and install low one-way clutch into overdrive drum with chamfer up.





10. Remove No. 6 thrust washer.





11. NOTE: Direct clutch hub O-ring seals retain forward clutch on hub. Pry evenly and do not locate screwdriver ends on or near forward clutch check ball.

Remove forward clutch assembly by prying up on each side with two screwdrivers.





12. Remove O-rings from direct/intermediate clutch hub.





13. Remove direct one-way clutch and No. 7 thrust washer.
14. Remove one-way clutch race and one-way clutch.

Direct One-Way Clutch Installation:

15. Clean and inspect direct one-way clutch components. Assemble direct one-way clutch with circular depressions facing upward.
