Reverse Clutch

Disassembly








1. NOTE: The number of clutch plates will vary by application.

Remove reverse clutch pressure plate retaining ring, clutch pressure plate, clutch pack and reverse clutch wave spring.

2. CAUTION: Do not fully compress return spring.





Using Clutch Spring Compressor T65L-77515-A, compress reverse clutch support and spring. Use snap ring pliers to remove the retaining ring.





3. Remove tool. Remove clutch spring compressor and retaining ring. Remove reverse clutch support and spring from reverse clutch hub.








4. Lift out clutch piston. Remove and discard reverse clutch piston outer seal. Clean piston.

5. NOTE: Lip on seal faces toward bottom cylinder.








Remove and discard reverse clutch piston inner seal. Clean reverse clutch cylinder.

Assembly
1. Install new reverse clutch piston inner seal (lip facing toward bottom of cylinder).





2. Install new reverse clutch piston outer seal (lips facing toward bottom of cylinder) and install reverse clutch piston using Reverse Clutch Piston Seal Protector T94P-77001-PH.





3. Install reverse clutch support and spring to reverse clutch cylinder.

4. CAUTION: Do not fully compress spring retainer.





Compress reverse clutch support and spring using Clutch Spring Compressor T65L-77515-A. Install retaining ring using snap ring pliers.





5. NOTE: The number of clutch plates will vary by application.

Remove clutch spring compressor. Install wave spring, clutch pack, clutch pressure plate and clutch pressure plate retaining ring.

6. WARNING: TO PREVENT INJURY, WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING PRESSURIZED AIR.

NOTE: Be certain that shop air is dry and regulated at 276 kPa (40 psi).





Air check clutch assembly for proper operation.





7. Check clutch pack clearance using feeler gauge. Take two readings, 180 degrees apart, and determine the average of the two readings. The clearance should be: 1.02-1.59 mm (0.040-0.063 inch) 3.0L (2V), 3.0L (4V) models and 1.27-1.84 mm (0.049-0.072 inch) SHO only.

Selective Snap Ring:





8. If the clearance is not within specification, selective snap rings are available:
After installing the correct snap ring, recheck the clearance.
