Pump Assembly and Main Control Valve Body

MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY

Disassembly

1. Remove three bolts retaining pump to main control valve body.

2. Remove pump from main control valve body.

CAUTION: Do not damage gasket.

NOTE: Main control valve body separator plate and main control valve body separator plate gasket are bonded together. This separator plate and its gaskets are serviced as an assembly.

Place main control valve body on bench with valve body plate up, and remove two T-30 Torx (R) bolts retaining valve body plate to main control valve body.
4. Remove valve body separator plate with bonded gasket.

5. NOTE: Be sure to note location of check balls.

Remove five check balls.

6. NOTE: Manual low relief valve springs are not interchangeable.

Remove and identify two manual low relief valves and springs. Remove modulator check valve and spring.

7. Remove and discard two filter screens

8. CAUTION: Most valves are aluminum and cannot be removed using a magnet. Remove valves by tapping valve body on palm of hand to slide valves out of bores. It may be necessary to remove valves and springs using a pick. If it is necessary to use a pick, use extreme caution to prevent damaging valves or valve bores. If necessary, disassemble parts of main control valve body in small groups. Take special care when handling main control components, since they are the most precise and delicate parts of the transaxle. Neatly arrange parts as they are removed to avoid mixing similar pieces.

CAUTION: Do not stone or polish any valves. If valves do not move freely, replace assembly.

The individual valves and springs are removed by removing retaining clips and bore plugs. Refer to the illustrations for valve and spring locations Clean valves, springs and main control valve body.

Assembly

1. CAUTION: Do not stone or polish any valves. If valves do not move freely, replace assembly.

Assemble valves and springs into main control valve body.

2. Install five check balls.

3. Install two manual low relief valve springs and one modulator check valve and spring identified in previous illustration.

4. Install two new filter screens into main control valve body assembly.

5. CAUTION: Verify relief and check valves for proper alignment to separator plate before tightening bolts. If relief and check valves are improperly installed, the transaxle will not operate properly.

NOTE: Gaskets are bonded to the separator plate.

Install valve body separator plate with bonded gasket.

6. Install two T-30 Torx (R) bolts and tighten to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).

PUMP ASSEMBLY

Special Tools:

Disassembly

1. Remove two T-30 Torx (R) bolts retaining valve body separator plate to pump housing.

2. Remove pump housing to valve body separator plate and discard gaskets.

3. NOTE: Be sure to note location of check ball.

Remove check ball.

4. Remove two bolts retaining pump cover to pump housing and remove cover.

5. WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN REMOVING SPRING TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.

CAUTION: Place a piece of cardboard or suitable material under screwdriver to prevent damage to housing gasket surface. Do not scratch or damage any machined surface.

Remove bore-ring spring by prying spring out of housing, using the cast shoulder as a leverage point.

6. Remove pump bore ring pin.

7. Remove metal bore ring side seal and bore ring and side seal support (O-ring) from pump bore ring. Discard O-ring.

8. Remove and discard pump bore ring radial seal and radial seal support.

9. Remove top pump vane support ring.

10. Remove outer pump bore ring.

11. Remove seven vanes from rotor.

12. Remove rotor.

13. Remove bottom pump vane support ring.

14. Remove one bolt and EPC solenoid retaining ring and solenoid. Remove and discard O-rings.

15. Remove Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Remove and discard O-rings.

16. NOTE: Shift solenoids are interchangeable. Take note of connector orientation.

Remove three shift solenoids pressing tab with small screwdriver. Twist shift solenoids and lift. Remove and discard O-rings.

Assembly

1. Install new O-rings on shift solenoids. Install shift solenoids by pressing down and twisting until a click is heard. Refer to illustration for proper orientation of shift solenoid.

2. Install new O-rings on TCC solenoid. Install TCC solenoid and secure with one bolt. Tighten bolt to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).

3. Install new O-rings on EPC solenoid. Install EPC solenoid and secure with one bolt. Tighten bolt to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).

4. Install bottom pump vane support ring.

5. NOTE: Counter bore area is where the pump shaft and mating splines pass through the rotor.

Install rotor with counter bore facing up.

6. NOTE: Shiny portion of vane blade is installed outward toward pump bore ring.

Install seven pump vanes in inner vane support.

7. Install pump bore ring with seal groove facing up.

8. Install top pump vane support ring.

9. Install new radial seal support and new pump bore ring radial seal.

10. Install new O-ring in groove in pump bore ring. Then, install metal pump bore ring side seal.

11. CAUTION: Pin must not be pushed through the pump body; it should be flush with valve body side of pump to prevent component interference.

Install bore ring pin.

12. CAUTION: Be sure this area is well cleaned-it is a hidden debris tap; flow from pump goes into manual valve circuit, then into EPC circuit. Pump pressure at this point is high, and any contamination not cleaned will be pumped throughout the transaxle on first operation.

CAUTION: Do not damage machined surfaces.

Install bore ring spring between case and tab on pump bore ring by compressing spring into pump housing.

13. NOTE: Use the pump shaft to align the pump while installing the pump cover.

NOTE: Ensure that pump bore ring retaining pin is flush with or below the surface of the main control valve body side of the pump.

Install pump cover on pump housing and install two retaining bolts. Tighten bolts evenly to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).

14. Install check ball as shown.

15. Position control valve body separator plate and two new gaskets on pump housing. Install two Torx(R) bolts. Tighten bolts to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).

16. CAUTION: Do not use the pump shaft for this alignment or a misalignment between the two components may occur.

Position main control valve body on pump using a new pump gasket. Use Pump Body Guide Pin T86P-70370-A to align the main control valve body to the numb

17. Install three main control valve body-to-pump retaining bolts and tighten to 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch lbs.).
