Differential Fluid Seals

Special Tools:






Removal
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Remove both halfshafts from vehicle.





4. Install Front Cover Seal Remover 303-107 (T74P-6700-A) and 5 1/2-inch forcing screw (from Crankshaft Seal Replacer/Cover Aligner 303-335 (T88T-6701-A)) into LO differential seal.

5. NOTE: The differential fluid seal is a two-piece seal constructed of an outer metal protector and inner rubber seal.





Screw the Front Cover Seal Remover 303-107 (T74P-6700-A) and forcing screw into the outer metal protector using a one-inch box wrench.





6. Tighten the forcing screw on the end of the tool using a 3/4-inch box wrench until the outer metal protector is removed. Remove the outer metal protector from the tool and discard.





7. Install Front Cover Seal Remover 303-107 (T74P-6700-A) and forcing screw into the seal portion using a one-inch box wrench.





8. Tighten the forcing screw on the end of the tool using a 3/4 inch box wrench until the seal portion is removed and discard the seal.

9. NOTE: The differential fluid seal is a two-piece seal constructed of an outer metal protector and inner rubber seal.

Differential Seal Removal:





a. Install Step Plate Adapter 205-DS011 (D80L-630-A) or equivalent into the differential fluid seal opening. Install the Front Cover Seal Remover 303-107 (T74P-6700-A) and a 5 1/2-inch forcing screw (from 303-323 (T88L-6701-A)) into the differential fluid seal opening.





b. Screw the Front Cover Seal Remover 303-107 (T74P-6700-A) and 5 1/2 inch forcing screw into the outer metal protector portion using a one inch box wrench.





c. Tighten the forcing screw on the end of the tool using a 3/4 inch box wrench until the outer metal protector portion is removed.





d. Remove the outer metal protector portion from the tool and discard. Install the tool into the seal portion using a one-inch box wrench.





e. Tighten the tool using a 3/4 inch box wrench until the seal portion is removed. Remove the seal portion from the tool and discard.

Installation





1. Install LH differential fluid seal using Output Seal Replacer 307-157 (T86P-1177-B).





2. Install RH differential fluid seal using Output Seal Replacer 307-157 (T86P- 1177-B) and Output Shaft Seal Replacer Pilot 307-317 (T94P-77001-JH).
3. Install both halfshafts into vehicle.
4. Install front tire and wheel assemblies.
5. Lower vehicle.
