Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Description and Operation
BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCHThe Brake Pedal Position Switch (BPP) switch is a normally open switch that closes when the brake pedal is applied. An electrical signal is then sent to the speed control servo and the speed control system is disengaged. When the brake pedal is released, the circuit to the stoplamps opens and the BPP switch returns to its open position.
SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH
The speed control deactivator switch:
- is a normally closed switch and a redundant safety feature in the system.
- works independently of the stoplamp circuit to remove power to the speed control servo, releasing the throttle from servo control under increased brake pedal efforts (22-44 N engine running).
- is mounted to the brake pedal support.
- has a plunger which pushes against the brake pedal arm.
