WARNING
TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS AND BEFORE SERVICING, REPLACING, ADJUSTING OR STRIKING COMPONENTS NEAR THE FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS, SUCH AS DOORS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CONSOLE, DOOR LATCHES, STRIKERS, SEATS AND HOOD LATCHES.

PASSENGER FRONT SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR

1. Record the radio stations.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Wait at least one (1) minute to deplete the backup power supply before continuing with this service procedure.

3. Remove the front passenger-side upper anchor bolt trim cover.





4. Remove the front passenger-side safety belt upper and the lower anchor bolts. See Figure 3.

5. Remove the passenger-side B-pillar trim panel. See Figure 3.





6. Remove the safety belt web guide. See Figure 4.

7. Remove the safety belt retractor retaining bolt, then remove the safety belt retractor. See Figure 4.

8. Install the new safety belt retractor. Tighten the retaining bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

9. Install the safety belt web guide.

10. Install the passenger-side B-pillar trim panel.

11. Install the front passenger-side safety belt upper and the lower anchor bolts. Tighten the anchor bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

12. If rear seat safety belt retractor replacement is not required, proceed as follows:

^ Connect the battery negative cable.

^ Program the radio stations.

REAR SEAT SAFETY BELT RETRACTORS

1. If the backup power supply has not been depleted, proceed as follows:

^ Record the radio stations.

^ Disconnect the battery negative cable. Wait at least one (1) minute to deplete the backup power supply before continuing with this service procedure.

2. Remove the rear seat cushion. The ashtray electrical connector must be disconnected before removing the cushion from the vehicle.

3. Remove the rear backrest cushion.





4. Position both driver-side and passenger-side scuff plates away from the rocker panels. See Figure 5.

5. Position both driver-side and passenger-side lower quarter trim panels away from the quarter panels. See Figure 5.

6. Remove both driver-side and passenger-side outboard safety belt lower anchor bolts. See Figure 5.

7. Remove both driver-side and passenger-side lower quarter trim panels.

8. Remove the seaming welt (weather strip) from both rear door openings.

9. Remove both driver-side and passenger-side upper quarter trim panels.

10. Remove the center safety belt lower anchor bolt.

11. Open the trunk.

12. Remove the luggage compartment lower back panel (fabric panel covering underside of package tray).





13. Lower the module tray. See Figure 6.

14. Remove the hi-mount stop lamp housing as follows:

^ Disconnect the hi-mount stop lamp electrical connector.

^ Unsnap and remove the hi-mount stop lamp bulb holder

^ Remove the hi-mount stop lamp housing retaining screws.

^ Individually squeeze together the tangs on the retaining clips and the push clip through the decklid.

^ From inside the vehicle, remove the hi-mount stop lamp housing.





15. Remove the center safety belt bezel from the package tray trim panel. See Figure 7.

16. Remove the package tray trim panel. See Figure 7.





17. If outboard retractor(s) replacement is required, proceed as follows:

^ Remove the safety belt upper anchor bolt(s). See Figure 8.

^ Remove the safety belt retractor retaining bolt(s), then remove the safety belt retractor(s). See Figure 8.

^ Install the new safety belt retractor(s). Tighten the retaining bolt(s) to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

^ Install the safety belt upper anchor bolt(s). Tighten the anchor bolt(s) to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

18. If center retractor replacement is required, proceed as follows:

^ Remove the center retractor retaining bolt.

^ Turn the retractor 90 degrees, then remove the center retractor. See Figure 8.

^ Install the new center retractor. Tighten the retaining bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

19. Install the package tray trim panel. Route the center safety belt through the trim panel before final installation.

20. Install the center safety belt bezel into the package tray trim panel.

21. Install the hi-mount stop lamp housing as follows:

^ Position the hi-mount stop lamp housing in the installed position. Make sure the retaining clips snap into position.

^ From the luggage compartment, install the housing retaining screws. Tighten the screws securely.

^ Install the hi-mount stop lamp bulb holder assembly. Make sure the holder snaps into position.

^ Connect the hi-mount stop lamp electrical connector.

22. Position the module tray back in the installed position.

23. Install the luggage compartment lower back panel.

24. Close the trunk.

25. Install the center safety belt lower anchor bolt. Tighten the anchor bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

26. Install both driver-side and passenger-side upper quarter trim panels. Route the safety belt through the trim panel before final installation.

27. Install both rear door seaming welts.

28 Position both driver-side and passenger-side lower quarter trim panels close to the installed position, then route both outboard safety belt lower anchors through the trim panels.

29. Install both driver-side and passenger-side outboard safety belt lower anchor bolts. Tighten the anchor bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

30. Install both driver-side and passenger-side lower quarter trim panels.

31. Install both driver-side and passenger-side scuff plates.

32. Install the rear backrest cushion. Tighten the retainers to 5 Nm (45 lb-in).

33. Position the rear seat cushion close to the installed position, then connect the ashtray electrical connector.

34. Install the rear seat cushion.

35. Connect the battery negative cable.

36. Program the radio stations.
