DASH INSULATOR RETAINER INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1999 TAURUS AND SABLE

INSPECTION





1. Visually inspect that dash insulator retainer is present and fully seated on accelerator cable housing. See Figure 1. Accelerator cable housing should protrude through dash insulator retainer.





2. If dash insulator retainer is in place, lightly pull on retainer to ensure it is securely in place on accelerator cable housing. See Figure 2.

^ If dash insulator retainer is securely in place, no service action is needed. Return vehicle to customer.

^ If dash insulator retainer is missing or is not securely in place on accelerator cable housing, proceed to SERVICE PROCEDURE.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove original dash insulator retainer, if present.





2. Depress accelerator pedal to wide open throttle (WOT), then install new dash insulator retainer as shown in Figure 3. Make sure locking tabs of retainer are facing accelerator pedal.





3. Make sure accelerator cable housing protrudes through dash insulator retainer. See Figure 4.
