Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Description and Operation
The instrument cluster system consists of the following components:
- tachometer
- speedometer
- fuel gauge/temperature assembly
- instrument cluster gauge amplifier
- engine coolant temperature gauge
- vehicle odometer
- trip odometer
- a transmission range indicator
- an odometer reset shaft
The instrument cluster contains the following indicators and warning indicators:
- charging system
- safety belt
- BRAKES
- high beams
- oil pressure indicator
- left turn/right turn signal
- LOW COOLANT
- low fuel
- SERVICE ENGINE SOON (Malfunction Indicator Lamp - MIL)
- ANTI-LOCK (ABS)
- airbag
- door ajar
- CRUISE
- overdrive off (0/D OFF)
- THEFT (alarm status)
- Electronic Transmission Range Indicator (floor shift vehicles)
Instrument Cluster Display Proveout
When the ignition switch is turned to RUN, the following warning indicators will prove out by momentarily lighting:
- SERVICE ENGINE SOON
- safety belt
- charging system
- air bag
- low oil pressure
- anti-lock brake system
- door ajar
- low fuel
Printed Circuit
Power is distributed through the instrument cluster using an instrument cluster printed circuit.
- The instrument cluster printed circuit provides power to illuminate the miniature bulbs located in the instrument cluster.
- The instrument cluster lamps are dimmed using headlamp switch.
