Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

Removal

1. NOTE: A one-piece crankshaft rear oil seal is used for replacement on all engines. The complete crankshaft rear oil seal can be replaced without removing the crankshaft.

Remove flywheel.

2. CAUTION: Avoid scratching or damaging the oil seal sealing surfaces on crankshaft and cylinder block.

NOTE: Make sure the crankshaft sealing surface is clean and free of any rust or corrosion before using Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover 303-519 (T95P-6701-EH). If necessary, clean the crankshaft rear sealing surface with extra-fine emery cloth or extra-fine 0000 steel wool and Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-1 9A636-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M513392-A.

Insert Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover 303-519 (T95P-6701-EH) over the crankshaft flange then tighten into Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal.





3. NOTE: To remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear crankshaft seal remover it is necessary to hold the crankshaft rear oil seal in a vise.





Attach Impact Slide Hammer 307-005 (T59L- 100-B) or equivalent to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Remover 303-519 (T95P-6701-EH) then remove crankshaft rear oil seal.

Installation
1. Clean and inspect crankshaft rear oil seal sealing surfaces on crankshaft and cylinder block.
2. Lubricate crankshaft flange and crankshaft rear oil seal inside diameter with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.





3. Install crankshaft rear oil seal using Rear Main Seal Replacer 303-178 (T82L-6701-A) and Rear Crank Seal Replacer Adapters 303-384 (T91P-6701-A). Alternate bolt tightening to properly seat the crankshaft rear oil seal 0.5-0.0 mm (0.020-0.0 inch) flush to rear of cylinder block.

NOTE: LUBRICATE CRANKSHAFT FLANGE AND REAR OIL SEAL INSIDE DIAMETER WITH ENGINE ASSY LUBRICANT DGAZ-19579-D OR EQUIVALENT MEETING FORD SPECIFICATION ESR-M99C80-A PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF SEAL AA0188-A

4. Install flywheel.
5. Run engine and check for leaks.
