Intake Manifold: Description and Operation
The intake manifolds consist of:
- upper intake manifold.
- lower intake manifold.
The intake manifold runner lengths are tuned to optimize engine torque and power output.
Upper
The upper intake manifold is a one-piece aluminum casting used in conjunction with a lower intake manifold.
Lower
The lower intake manifold is located between the upper intake manifold and the cylinder heads and consists of:
- an integral Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC).
- mounting flanges for the fuel injection supply manifold.
- pockets in which the bottom-feed fuel injectors are mounted. These are placed to direct the fuel injector spray immediately in front of each engine intake valve.
