Operation

CAUTION: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads and requires a special corrosion inhibiting coolant to avoid cooling system damage.

The 3.0L (4V) is a 60 degree V-6 engine with Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC), four valves per cylinder and Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI). The engine has:
- an aluminum upper intake manifold.
- a lower intake manifold with integral intake manifold runner controls.
- aluminum cylinder heads.
- a cast aluminum upper cylinder block.
- a cast aluminum lower cylinder block with four integral lower main bearing caps.

The ignition system is electronic (distributorless) with one ignition coil. This high energy ignition system is required for fast-burn combustion.

A unique intake air system utilizes a secondary intake port along with a primary intake port. The secondary port is opened and closed by an electronically operated Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) deactivation motor, thus improving low and mid-range torque and fuel efficiency.
