Camshaft: Description and Operation
The four camshafts are installed into the cylinder heads and supported in the cylinder head camshaft journals.- Two timing chains connect the crankshaft to the intake camshafts and exhaust camshafts.
- Camshaft thrust loads and end play are limited by the No. 1 and No. 5 cylinder head camshaft journal thrust caps.
- The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP sensor) is located on the engine front cover and is triggered by the LH exhaust camshaft sprocket.
Valve Train
Hydraulic valve tappets provide automatic lash adjustment. The rocker arms pivot on the valve tappets and ride on the camshaft lobes, transferring the up-and-down motion of the camshafts to the exhaust valves and intake valves in the cylinder heads.
