Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Service and Repair

Removal

CAUTION: Do not mix Standard (green) Coolant with Extended Life Coolant (orange). If mixing occurs, drain engine cooling system and refill with originally equipped coolant type. If this contamination occurs, the service change interval on Extended Life Coolant will be reduced from 6 years/150,000 miles to 3 years/30,000 miles.

1. Remove engine Air Cleaner (ACL).
2. Remove battery.
3. Remove battery tray.
4. Recover A/C system.
5. Raise vehicle on hoist.
6. Drain engine cooling system.
7. Remove four bolts retaining lower radiator hose shield and remove lower radiator hose shield.
8. Disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator.
9. Disconnect A/C evaporator muffler and hoses from A/C condenser core.





10. Disconnect lower transmission oil cooler tube from radiator using 3/8 Inch Fuel Line Disconnect Tool 310-S039 (T90T-9550-S) (blue).
11. Remove two screws from the lower transmission oil cooler tube and allow transmission oil cooler tube to hang.
12. Remove both transmission oil cooler tubes from left end of power steering/transmission oil cooler.
13. Remove lower radiator mounts.
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Remove four bolts retaining hood latch support and position hood latch support aside.
16. Remove front bumper cover.
17. Remove upper radiator support.
18. Disconnect radiator overt low hose from radiator.
19. Remove power distribution box and harness and bracket and position power distribution box and harness aside.
20. Disconnect fan motor from engine control sensor wiring.
21. Remove six screws retaining engine control sensor wiring and position engine control sensor wiring aside.
22. Disconnect power steering fluid cooler from power steering pump.
23. Support fan blade and fan shroud assembly.





24. Remove four bolts from cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly brackets to sub-frame.





25. Lift cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly out of vehicle.

Installation
1. Position cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly into vehicle.





2. Install four bolts through cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly brackets into front end frame rails. Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect power steering fluid cooler to power steering pump.
4. Install six screws into engine control sensor wiring. Tighten securely.
5. Connect engine control sensor wiring to power steering pump.
6. Install four bolts to power distribution box and harness and bracket assembly. Tighten to 25-35 Nm (18-25 ft. lbs.).
7. Connect upper radiator hose and radiator overflow hose to radiator.
8. Install upper radiator support.
9. Install front bumper cover.
10. Install four bolts into hood latch support assembly. Tighten to 25-35 Nm (18-25 ft. lbs.).
11. Raise vehicle.
12. Install both transmission oil cooler tubes to the left end of power steering/ transmission cooler. Tighten clamps securely.
13. Install power steering transmission cooler and secure with one bolt and one nut. Tighten to 5-7 Nm (45-61 inch lbs.).
14. Connect lower transmission oil cooler tube to radiator cap.
15. Connect A/C evaporator muffler and hoses to A/C condenser core.
16. Connect lower radiator hose to radiator and clamp securely.
17. Install four bolts to lower radiator hose shield and tighten to 5-7 Nm (45-61 inch lbs.).
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Install battery tray.
20. Install battery.
21. Install engine air cleaner.
22. Fill power steering reservoir and bleed.
23. Fill and bleed engine cooling system.
24. Charge air conditioning system.
